Are you fed up of getting fake likes?
Is your engagement rate dropping?
When we are running a "Page Like" campaign, it is often seen that we get fake likes. We all know targeting is the most important part of digital marketing, as it gives the ability to show your ads to people specific to a location, interest, behaviour etc. But still, we get a lot of fake likes no matter how much we narrow our audience.
In the past few years, Facebook has taken many steps to remove fake accounts from its platform. They deleted millions of fake accounts from its platform. They have also implemented pattern recognition in the algorithm which has stopped many exchanges that used to promote fake likes. Facebook also sends an alert to all the impacted admins.
How can you check if the likes on your page are fake?
Well, you can get an approximate idea by seeing the post engagement. If the post engagement is constantly very low as compared to the number of likes on the page, there are high chances that your page has fake likes. This happens because your followers are not actual people but fake profiles, created only to like or follow pages.
Another way is to visit profiles of a few people who have liked your page, if that profile is less active in posting or other activities or likes many pages (hundreds or thousands of pages), then the profile is fake. The objective of creating such profiles is only to like the pages and nothing else.
How to avoid getting fake likes?
- Spend on real business objectives:
Run campaigns with sales objective. Facebook campaigns with the objective - "Conversion" target people who are online purchasers and are likely to purchase from your website. If you have an e-commerce website, then this is the best objective to run Facebook ads. If you don’t have an e-commerce website you can run lead generation campaigns, otherwise, if you want to run a campaign for just page likes, then the next steps might be useful.

- Target Custom audience:
Custom audience as we all know allows us to target people whose email ids or phone numbers is there with us or they have interacted with our business. These email ids can be of our existing customers or we can collect them by any lead generation method.
For example, for updating the existing customers about the latest offer custom audience, we can create a "Page Like" campaign. This will help us stay connected with them. Which will also lead to increased loyalty.
- Use the Connections to filter audience:
This helps us to narrow any audience. This will let you target people who are friends of people who have already liked the page or people who have used your app. This way we can avoid fake likes.
Add a Connection Type
So, depending on the need of the campaign you can use one of the two options for filtering the target. Either way might result in less but genuine activity. This way we can assure that our money is not be wasted on fake results.
